It's Orange Barrel Season in Ann Arbor

Get ready for gridlock and plan accordingly!

As early as April 10, intermittent traffic interruptions are anticipated on East Ann Street, between Zina Pitcher and Observatory, and on Observatory, between East Medical Center Drive and East Ann Street. Two-way traffic will be maintained in all directions with flaggers.

In mid- to-late April, it is expected that eastbound East Ann Street between Zina Pitcher and Observatory will be closed; westbound traffic will be maintained. On Observatory, between East Medical Center Drive and East Ann, lane closures will shift between the north and southbound lanes; however, northbound traffic only will be maintained at all times. Vehicular detours will be posted in the field.  As part of this project, on-street parking along East Ann Street will be closed.

Transit routes to be affected

Anticipated changes to U-M transit routes in Phases 1 and 2 of the project are noted below:

East Huron Street and Washtenaw Avenue lane closures

Expected to start in early April and last through the month, lane closures are scheduled to be in effect on East Huron Street and Washtenaw Avenue for utility work associated with the Central Power Plant Expansion project. At least one lane in each direction will be maintained for vehicular traffic.

Northbound turns onto Zina Pitcher Place from eastbound East Huron Street will not be permitted.

It is anticipated that the sidewalk adjacent to the Central Power Plant — from Glen Avenue to Palmer Drive — will be closed for the month as well. Vehicular and pedestrian detours will be posted.
