2-Day Lean Healthcare Experience

A note from the Michigan Quality System team, inviting house officers to a 2-day Lean Healthcare course. Sessions available in May (28th - 29th) and June (25th - 26th).

In response to demand from UMHS faculty and staff, the Michigan Quality System is piloting a 2-Day Lean Healthcare experience to engage UMHS faculty, leaders, managers and frontline staff in applying Lean Thinking improvement methods to our work. In designing this experience, we kept the core objectives of our popular 4-Day Lean Healthcare Course, but condensed the content into a fast-paced, two-day experience. You will be exposed to the same key ‘lean’ principles, methods and tools as the in-depth 4-Day experience, but in a shorter timeframe, with less “hands-on” time to practice using the tools in the classroom.

Over the course of the two days you will learn about the application of Lean Thinking in health care, and how we use it to achieve our goals across missions at UMHS. You will participate in a lively ED simulation that teaches key lean concepts such as pull, flow, 5S, standard work, leveling, cross-training and communication. You will see how to use practical approaches, such as value stream mapping to help see the processes that deliver value, and A3 reports that support PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act/Adjust) problem solving. You will learn how to identify and attack the root causes of your real business problems. Finally, you will learn what it means to be a leader in a lean organization, how to: “Go See, Ask Why, and Respect People”.

Two offerings of the course are currently scheduled:

May Session
Tuesday & Wednesday
May 28 and 29, 2013
8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
