Settlement Agreement Reached
GME, HR, and HOA come to terms
The University of Michigan and the University of Michigan House Officers Association have agreed to the following resolution of Grievance #13-7938:
A House Officer who successfully completes a full year of full time training will be assigned to the next higher salary and House Officer level.
Paragraph #1 does not apply to the following circumstances:
A House Officer whose training is extended due to a leave of absence;
A House Officer whose training is extended due to remediation;
A House Officer who changes core residency training programs;
OMFS residents who attend medical school during the residency training period;
A House Officer who requests and is granted a part-time training schedule.
Outside applicants who successfully complete one or more years of full time training elsewhere in a position that would have been a House Officer position had it been worked at UMHS will be given credit for those years and assigned to the corresponding next higher HO level upon initial appointment as a House Officer at UMHS. This paragraph shall not apply to outside applicants to UMHS changing core residency training programs.
Beginning with training year 2014 (7/1/2013 to 6/30/2014), for each House Officer who was not advanced as described in paragraph 1, or not assigned to the corresponding next higher HO level upon initial appointment as described in paragraph 3, UMHS will advance the House Officer to the appropriate HO level and make the House Officer whole.
For House Officers who were not advanced in training year 2013, and who are currently House Officers at UMHS, UMHS will advance the House Officer to the appropriate level and make the House Officer whole for losses that have occurred since 7/1/2013.
