On November 27, 2024, The University of Michigan announced it would be ending support for certain health insurance plans utilized by staff. The Michigan Care plan is one that is directly utilized by House Officers.

The HOA requested a healthcare census to determine the impact on our membership. As of December 15, 2024 there are 300 House Officers enrolled in the plan. This change would impact roughly 23% of our bargaining unit, who will now be faced with either selecting higher premiums or reduced coverage as a result.

As such, the HOA has issued a demand to bargain with the hospital over the impact of this change to determine what, if anything, we can do to aid those members who are impacted. Stay tuned for updates.
