As affiliates of AFT, the HOA attends both the state and national AFT conventions. We will be holding an election to select delegates. AFT determines how many delegates we can send, and the HOA Board will determine how many we will seat. Each delegate will represent the HOA proportionally based on our membership numbers.

Nominations for convention delegate are being accepted from Wednesday, March 25 through Wednesday, April 1, at 10 am. To be eligible you must be a dues paying member, and still be in training for the academic year beginning July 1, 2026. To nominate yourself, please send us the following information:

• Name
• Program and Year
• A candidate statement that is roughly a paragraph long and explains why you are running.

The information you provide will appear in News for House Officers and be included as part of the ballot. The election period begins on April 6 at 10 am and runs through April 9 at 10 am. You will receive an electronic ballot in your Inbox.

The election will use the Single Transferrable Vote method and will result in a ranked list of the candidates. Delegates will be seated using the ranked list. If a winning candidate discovers they are unable to attend the convention before delegates are submitted to AFT for credentialing, their seat will move to the next highest candidate.

This contest will not elect FY2027 HOA Board. That election will occur this May.

AFT-MI Convention

The AFT-MI convention will take place in Detroit on Saturday May 2.

The national AFT convention will take place in Washington D.C. from Wednesday July 15 through Sunday July 19.
