Dr. Anita Afzali

Dr. Anita Afzali is an internationally recognized, board-certified gastroenterologist with a distinguished focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). She has dedicated her career to improving the lives of those affected by this chronic and often debilitating condition.

Dr. Afzali’s medical journey began at the University of Washington, where she earned her medical degree and completed her internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship. She further specialized with an advanced IBD fellowship and holds both a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Washington and a Master of Healthcare Management (MHCM) from Harvard University. Dr. Afzali serves as Associate Chief Medical Officer, Executive Vice-Chair for Clinical Operations in the Department of Internal Medicine, and Professor in the Division of Digestive Diseases at the University of Cincinnati. 

As the founder of IBDHorizons, Dr. Afzali has further extended her influence by creating an organization dedicated to the education, research, and collaboration necessary for advancing IBD treatment. Under her leadership, IBDHorizons provides healthcare professionals with the latest insights into IBD management, fostering a community committed to improving patient outcomes.
