What is a Badge Buddy?

It is one name for the plastic cards worn under your hospital ID. They make it easy for others to identify your position, department, preferred pro-nouns, or other information. Now they can also signify your HOA membership.

Why "Union Doctor?"

This term was chosen as the easiest to understand for patients, visitors, and staff who may have never heard of the House Officers Association — even if they know residents and fellows are unionized at Michigan Medicine. This is important because they are primarily a solidarity signifier, especially during contract negotiations.

Where can I get one?

They are available in the House Officer Lounge and the C&W Workroom.

Three Sizes

Our badge buddies are union made, printed in our solidarity color "sunset" (salmon / coral), and available in three sizes. That means you can keep all you other badge buddies in place and add the "Union Doctor" one to your collection.

What if I need a different size?

Please grab the new size you need and return your old one to HOA Staff. We are located in the HOA Office inside the H.O. Lounge. We'll inspect and clean up your old one before returning it to service.
