The Grand Round Up
Here is what is going on in UM Labor in March of 2026.
Here are some updates on what other unions at the University of Michigan are up to this month:
- The nurses union, UMPNC, is currently in negotiations with the hospital with their contract expiring on 3/31/26. They have gotten good agreements on workplace safety and violence protocols but are still at odds with UM over staffing levels and the rights of APRNs. Support them by wearing red on Wednesdays and signing this petition!
- Staff at the UM Campus, under the banner of University Staff United, ratified their first ever union contract. It was an effort that was years in the making and we are happy to see they reached a resolution.
- The Post-Docs at University of Michigan, known as UM-PRO, achieved official recognition as a union this month by showing a majority of Post-Docs supported unionizing. Congratulations to them.
- The Grad Students, who are represented by GEO, are under a state-mandated pause to their negotiations for a "cooling off" period. We hope that after the pause, negotiations continue and both sides can come to agreement on a new contract.
