The following HOA members are the nominees for our convention delegates to both the AFT- Michigan and the AFT-National Conventions:

Candidate Statement: I would like to attend both the state (Michigan) and national (Washington D.C.) conventions. I have attended multiple local AFT workshops over the past year and have enjoyed building connections with union leaders from other chapters affiliated with AFT. It has also been a privilege getting to know the healthcare sector organizers and leaders within AFT Michigan. I would like to attend the state & national conventions to become a more informed and capable member of the bargaining team. Understanding the challenges that other healthcare union chapters are facing will help us prepare for negotiations in 2027.

John Levine

Program: Emergency Medicine

Candidate Statement: Continuing my efforts as a HOA board member, I would work to forward our goals as a union at the upcoming conventions.

Haley Marber

Candidate Statement: 
As president-elect of our union, I have been able to hear from members across our union about the issues that matter most to them. I hope to take this opportunity to represent our interests and ensure that your voices are heard at these conventions. Having been a part of our union board for 3 years, I have also been able to see our relationship with AFT grow and evolve. As this upcoming year academic will be our first bargaining campaign since our affiliation with AFT, it is crucial that we strategically approach our relationship with AFT and our representation within this larger union to maximize the benefits this partnership can offer.

Alexa Pinsky

Program: med-peds
HO Year: 3
Candidate Statement: I am seeking to serve as an HOA Convention Delegate to support our collective voice within the American Federation of Teachers and strengthen our representation at the state & national level. While I am unable to attend this year’s conference, I am committed to staying engaged, learning the role, and preparing to represent our members in future conventions. I am dedicated to advocating for resident well-being, fair working conditions, and stronger union alignment in the years ahead.

The election will use the Single Transferrable Vote method (Fractional Transfer). If a winning candidate discovers they are unable to attend the state convention before delegates are submitted to AFT-MI for credentialing, the ballots will be recounted to select who would have been the next winner.

Because the number delegates to the national convention will differ from that for the state convention, the ballots will be recounted prior to national convention and after withdrawing any candidates who discover they are not able to attend the national convention in July.

This contest will not elect FY2027 HOA Board. That election will occur this May.
