Accommodations

Info on ADA and other accommodations.

What does the process of applying for accommodations look like?

  • To apply for accommodations, please call 734-647-5538 Michigan Medicine HR to be connected to the Leave office which handles ADA information. From there, they will guide you through the process.

What documentation is necessary for an employee to receive accommodations?

  • A note from your Doctor that includes the following:
    • The nature of your condition
    • If you are unable to perform your essential Job function(s).
      • Indicate what essential job function(s) you cannot perform and the barriers that may be affecting your ability to perform the job function(s).
    • Recommendation from your Doctor regarding possible accommodation options.
    • Duration or how long the accommodation(s) is expected to last.

Do accommodation documents need to be submitted each year or do you have to reapply for accommodations each year?

  • You must renew accommodations each year, but if accommodations are the same then you will not have to reapply for accommodations. If you require additional / different accommodations then you must reapply.

When is the best time for me to request accommodations?

  • The sooner the process is started the better, however HR and program directors are expected to collaborate with residents regarding unexpected accommodations throughout the year as well.

What are some accommodations that are available to employees?

  • Pumping breaks for breastfeeding residents are guaranteed under the HOA and statewide protections, medication administration breaks, limited standing accessibility breaks, permanent or temporary handicap/accessibility parking and more!

What are some national resources that employees can access to support those with chronic illnesses or disabilities?
