P3 After Hours Parking with no Blue Pass

License Plate Readers coming to P3. Help us protect our spots.

Over a year ago, the University of Michigan initiated a transition away from the AVI physical parking passes in favor of License Plate Reader (LPR) technology. Soon, the license plate readers will be installed at P3, and eventually, AVIs will be completely retired.

If you have a Blue (or other) Parking pass, you are already familiar with the AIMS/Umich Parking Portal. Some House Officers do not purchase a parking pass. While 24/7 P3 Access requires a Blue pass, After Hours P3 Access parking can be used by all House Officers, whether or not they purchase a University parking permit. Currently, those without a permit who use After Hours P3 Access gain entry to the structure by scanning their M-Cards at the gate.

When license plate readers are installed at P3, scanning your  M-Card will still work for after-hours parking. However, there is a chance that M-Card-only access will not be an option in the future. Starting now, any House Officer can register an account on the parking portal, even if they do not intend to purchase a Blue Pass. When you do, you will see a free permit called "HO Contract Access." Please add your license plates to this permit.

While taking this action is not strictly required at this time, it may be in the future. So why do it now? The HOA is working with the administration on stricter enforcement of our P3 Limited Access spots. If your plate is not registered in the system, we cannot verify that you are legally parked in one of these spots as a House Officer. This could lead to bad data during parking audits or to the occasional erroneous parking ticket.

If you need help with the parking portal, let us know; we are here to help.
