Paid Benefits When Transitioning to Faculty

Avoid any break in service.

If you end one appointment and have a break in service (even 1 day), then you are considered a “new hire” and your seniority begins again.  A new employee would only be eligible for the paid maternity benefit.  Unless you have 6 months of service at the time of the event (birth, adoption, foster), you would forgo the additional paid parental leave.

If there is no break in service when transitioning to a new appointment, you will continue to be eligible for both paid maternity and parental benefits.
