The HOA is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, a larger state and national labor union. With 1.6 million members, AFT has been able to get discounts and benefits for its members beyond what the HOA can provide on its own.

The details of the benefits can be found here but they include:

• Discounts on Auto and Home Insurance
• Access to a long-term care insurance plan for AFT families
• Deals on Car Rental, Hotels, and Southwest Airlines Flights for travel
• Union Plus Scholarships for AFT members and their families who are pursuing higher education.
• Various discounts on shopping and entertainment.

To access your member benefits you need to sign up and register using your AFT member number. Your AFT member number can be retrieved here: https://hoaumich.org/member-login/

From there you simply:

• Go to the member benefit registration page to generate a log-in.
• You will need to input your member ID and the HOA local number: 05158
• (The leading zero for the local number is required on the registration form)
• This will generate an email so you can set up a password
