HOA Grieves Changes to Email Policy

The new Michigan Medicine policy impacts speed of patient care, was done without consultation with the HOA. Open letter also issued for signatures.

The HOA has received reports from our membership of the impact the new Michigan Medicine policy limiting access to employee email.

The HOA contract specifies that the hospital must meet and discuss changes to the IT system with the union before implementing them. This did not happen in this instance and the HOA filed a grievance on Thursday, 9/26.

We are aware and respect the hospital's desire to protect patient information and we share it wholeheartedly. However, it was clear the user experience and accessibility for House Officers was not taken into account in this most recent change — and it is negatively impacting our members. This is precisely what the contract provisions are there to address, and they were ignored.

We are asking our members to sign an open letter along with their attendings, PDs, Chairs, and any other members of the care team.
