HOA Supports Western Michigan Residents
Residents and Fellows for Western Michigan University have called a strike due to stalled negotiations on their first contract. The HOA supports their fight for fair wages and benefits.
The Resident and Fellows Alliance (RFA) represents 250 of our colleagues at Western Michigan University (WMU). Those attending WMU for residency rotate at Bronson Methodist Hospital and Ascension Borgess Hospital, both private health systems. In March of 2024, residents and fellows at both hospitals unionized and have been negotiating for fair wages and benefits ever since.
Seeing little ground gained in negotiations and with the health system functionally not moving on wage increases, the RFA made the decision to call a strike. Being part of a private hospital system, the RFA has a legal right to strike compared to the public sector prohibitions the HOA faces.
The HOA supports our colleagues in their fight for a fair first contract and hopes the hospital comes to the table with good proposals so that the members of RFA can continue providing the excellent patient care that their patients deserve.
The HOA also urges members to sign this petition in support of our RFA colleagues.
