Proof of Malpractice Insurance
Obtaining medical professional liability letters is self-serve on the HOA website.
Each year, the employer makes available to the HOA a generic letter that acts as proof of liability/malpractice insurance for house officers training at Michigan Medicine. If you need proof of coverage when applying for a job or your own insurance, you can immediately obtain the documents using the self-serve Medical Professional Liability Letter Tool.
All you need is your uniqname. The tool works for all current and former house officers back through 2012.
Malpractice Insurance
How does malpractice insurance for House Officers work?
Occurrence-Based / Tail Coverage
The House Officer malpractice insurance coverage is occurrence based. That means a House Officer is covered for anything that happens while they are training at the University. Even if a House Officer is named in a suit three years after they complete training, the University will stand behind them.
Moonlighting
The House Officer malpractice insurance does not cover a House Officer when they are moonlighting.
